At Mount Vernon Towers, There’s Always Music in the Air

Melodears

This week, the Melodears, Mount Vernon Towers’ own choral group directed by Mrs. Aloe Greeson, started its regular practices again in order to be ready for their quarterly concert later this fall. The performing group, consisting of 20ladies and 10gentlemen who all live at Mount Vernon Towers, is very popular with the residents of the retirement community in the heart of Sandy Springs. Everybody enjoys the great songs from ‘their’ era, including numbers from well-known musicals and Broadway shows.

Melodears-2In addition to the weekly Melodears rehearsals, there is always lots of music to enjoy at Mount Vernon Towers. Just check out our monthly calendar of activities: at least two or three times per week, bands, duos and choirs come to share their musical gifts to the delight of the entire community.

Music is good for the soul – at any age! Studies about music and its effect on seniors point out that people who listen to music enjoy:

  • a happier outlook on life and an increase in positive emotions
  • increased relaxation
  • reduced tension and anxiety
  • better sleep
  • reduced pain and reduced recovery time
  • more social interaction

For people with Alzheimer’s disease, music enriches their lives, since it allows for self-expression and engagement, even after dementia has progressed.Read more: http://www.alz.org/care/alzheimers-dementia-music-art-therapy.asp#ixzz39Y4dkBbl
