08 May Mount Vernon Towers’ Melodears Serenade Spring with “Spring Sing”
Every season, the Melodears, Mount Vernon Towers’ unparalleled singing group directed by Mrs. Aloe Greeson, performs a live concert for the residents and their families at the senior living community in the heart of Sandy Springs.
On two consecutive evenings in April, the Melodears hosted two concerts on the Sun Porch for more than 200 people combined. The choral group is made up of twenty ladies and ten gentlemen and practices every Monday afternoon. They all enjoy singing and performing the great songs from ‘their’ era, including numbers from well-known musicals and Broadway shows.
Mrs. Greeson has directed the Melodears for the last eight years, and selects all the songs from her extensive sheet music collection. She also incorporates visual flair into each show: this year, Dorothy showed up to sing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” as well as the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz.
“Everybody looks forward to these seasonal concerts, often themed to a holiday or special event,” says Tommy Miller, Executive Director at Mount Vernon Towers. “For days afterwards, when you walk down through the lobby or down the halls, you hear people humming some of the songs performed by the Melodears.”
This year, the “Spring Sing” concert was captured on video and can be enjoyed by clicking here.
