06 Nov Mount Vernon Towers: Living Well and Healthy at Any Age
A healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and healthy eating, is a major component of living well – at any age. At Mount Vernon Towers, residents enjoy healthy meal choices in the retirement community’s dining room, a variety of exercise classes plus access to fitness equipment and an outdoor pool, and many other opportunities to proactively take care of their health and wellness.
These days, they are also inspired to live well by the outstanding success of their Executive Director, Chris Peterson, CPA, whose significant weight-loss story was chronicled in a recent story in The Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Chris Peterson, a strapping former Marine, lost 62 pounds off his 6’2″ frame in a period of little more than a year by exercising every day and eating lighter and much smaller portions. For him, the turning point to take better care of himself came after his mother passed away. As he notes in the newspaper article, “About the same time I was starting to work out, my mom passed away as a result of not taking care of herself. Seeing how much pain she went through motivated me to do everything I can to stay healthy for as long as I can.”
Every week, residents at Mount Vernon Towers have a lot of different opportunities to participate in age-appropriate exercise activities, such as Chair Yoga, Line Dancing, Focus on Fitness classes, Exercise with Paul, T’ai Chi and more. For the most recent calendar of events, click here.
