Meet Keith Groce, Maintenance Engineer at Mount Vernon Towers

DSC05732Keith Groce, Atlanta-born and raised, has been part of the 7-person Maintenance Department at Mount Vernon Towers since 1999. He and his team take great pride in making sure that the senior community’s plumbing and electrical systems, as well as the appliances in all 300 units, keep humming along.

“We know this building inside-out, and we work hard behind the scenes to make sure that all systems function well – continuously. We handle repairs and replacements, and make sure to service all HVAC equipment on a regular basis,” Keith explains.

Since all condominiums at Mount Vernon Tower have their own HVAC units, Keith, who has his HVAC Certificate, is able to handle most repairs in-house. “We are able to quickly replace a problem unit with a new one, and then fix the malfunctioning one in our shop.”

Before joining Mount Vernon Towers, Keith worked for more than 25 years with Atlantic Steel. When the company closed its doors, he entered the Center of Industry and Technology and took courses in electrical controls and HVAC technology.

Keith and his team also assist the residents with any painting, carpeting and other refurbishing within their home. “We are happy to provide a quote and oversee the work of preferred contractors, or if the homeowner prefers to act as project manager, we can provide a list of solid companies that will do a great job,” according to Keith.

Keith notes that the best part of his job is “…the family that is here. I have met so many great people at Mount Vernon Towers, and it gives me real satisfaction when I can help them, fixing a big or a small project.”

Recently, he was able to save a resident hundreds of dollars by fixing her electric cart. “The control switch broke, and they sent the wrong replacement parts – so I took it apart, and was able to transfer another switch – and that made her so happy. She’s back on the road! I love to make things work – and to make people smile.”

Keith and his wife live in Smyrna, and their three children and three grandchildren all live nearby. He enjoys gardening, hunting and fishing, and above all, spending time with his family and friends.
