U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson Visits Mount Vernon Towers, Discusses Current Issues, Concerns of Older Americans

More than 200 residents and staff members of Mount Vernon Towers, the independent living community in the heart of Sandy Springs, welcomed U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga. on May 28 when he held an informal ‘town hall meeting’ followed by a thoughtful Question & Answer session there. He spoke about a variety of subjects especially of interest to seniors, including Medicare, Social Security and current bills in the Senate. Since January 2013, Senator Isakson has served on the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, which has jurisdiction over taxes, trade, Medicare and Social Security.

Sandy Springs’ Mayor Eva Galambos, Gabriel Sterling, City Council Member, and Rusty Paul, Mayoral Candidate, attended the event as well.

A number of representatives of local media outlets, including TV, radio and print, were on hand to interview Senator Isakson after the event. For transcripts of some of these interviews, see:

Mount Vernon Towers regularly schedules these types of informational gatherings, though this is the first time a U.S. Senator has paid a visit.

“It was a great honor to welcome Senator Isakson to Mount Vernon Towers,” said Tommy Miller, Executive Director of Mount Vernon Towers. “His dedication to his country, his keen understanding of the issues at hand and his deep concern for his constituency were obvious to all. I am also so impressed with his warm and personal attention to every one of our residents.”
