29 Aug Mount Vernon Towers Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of Sun Porch
After several months of major renovation work, Mount Vernon Towers’ residents and staff recently celebrated the grand re-opening of the Sun Porch.
A big crowd gathered in the hallway right before the doors opened on Monday, August 26, for a first glimpse of the totally refreshed and refurbished Sun Porch, a favorite spot for many of the social events hosted at the independent senior living community in Sandy Springs.
Major construction this summer included the removal of a partial wall. Now there is only one slim support column left, making the room bigger and so much more comfortable for larger crowds.
The gifted interior design team of L.S. Associates, Lisa Strzelecki and Karen Tanner-Holt, used a smart combination of bright white trim, fresh new wooden blinds, a soothing forest green accent wall and an elegant new carpet combining soft blues and greens to create a beautiful new look for the Sun Porch. The doorway is accented by a new architectural pediment, and adds extra style to the bright room that features large windows on three sides.
When the doors opened, more than 200 residents admired their new surroundings and were highly complimentary of the new lay-out and design. It was a great party to christen the new space!
Tommy Miller, Executive Director of Mount Vernon Towers, thanked the Board of Mount Vernon Towers: Ralph Marion, Chairman, Sue Bailey, Vice-Chairman, Doris Davies, Bob Parsons and Betty Whittier, as well as members of his staff, especially Michael McAlonan, Rick Weaver and David Bauder, for their invaluable contributions to make the new Sun Porch a reality.
Of special note are the new audio-video elements in the room that now include a large drop-down projection screen and a state-of-the-art sound system that allows for surround-sound.
“We received wonderful reviews about this beautiful room. This is the most used multipurpose room we have at Mount Vernon Towers. On any given day, we may have performers entertaining us, a lecture on current issues, a dinner party, or our weekly Vespers service,” says Tommy Miller. “During the holidays, this room is the heart of all festivities, gloriously decorated in style by Cindy Hewlett, our Activities Director. Our residents love coming to events on the Sun Porch. We are excited about the elegant look.”
