New Features at Mount Vernon Towers
When visiting the lush courtyard between the buildings that comprise Mount Vernon Towers, the senior community for independent living in the heart of Sandy Springs, people will notice two new features that add a special touch and create a welcoming and peaceful atmosphere: a nice new fountain and a brand new gazebo, perfect for visits and small gatherings with friends and family.
Both the fountain and the gazebo were made possible by donations made to Mount Vernon Towers in memory of dear residents who lived their last years here.
Mrs. Joan Young, a very active member of the Mount Vernon Towers community, had always been very vocal about her wishes. Well before she passed, she asked her relatives and friends not to send flowers for her funeral, but instead, donate money in her name to Mount Vernon Towers, “so that together we can make other people smile!”
Her idea was the start of the Mount Vernon Towers’ Memorial Fund, and since then, more contributions have been made to this fund in honor of the memory of several other residents, such as Dottie Ellison and Fran Grove.
“This is such a meaningful way to remember beloved members of our community,” says Tommy Miller, Executive Director. “Through the Memorial Fund, we are able to beautify Mount Vernon Towers for the enjoyment of everybody who lives and visits here. We place commemorative plaques so that we continue to honor and remember these people who touched our lives at Mount Vernon Towers.”
