25 Oct Politics at Mount Vernon Towers: Inform and Educate
During these last few weeks leading up to November 6, Election Day 2012, living rooms all over the country are buzzing with political discussions about local and national candidates – and so are the halls of Mount Vernon Towers.
This week, Smyrna businessman Hunter Hill (34) visited with some 80 residents to alert them to his campaign for the Georgia Senate’s 6th District and to answer any questions about his plans for this district that now stretches from Smyrna into Buckhead after being redrawn by the GOP-dominated Georgia Legislature.
Hill, a Westminster Schools alum and a former Army captain who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, joins Josh Belinfante and Beth Beskin as candidates in the 2012 Republican primary. The winner will face Democratic incumbent Doug Stoner.
Also this week, Dr. Adam P. Stone, an Associate Professor of Political Science at Georgia Perimeter College’s Alpharetta Center, will give an in-depth presentation about the nation’s Electoral College, its history, its purpose, and its role and importance today.
“It will be a very popular lecture – I expect a full house,” remarks Tommy Miller, Executive Director of Mount Vernon Towers. “Our residents are actively involved and very interested in today’s politics, and such a timely, educational presentation will definitely help to inform their choices in November.”
