Are You Ready To Talk Love? Dating Over 55.

Dating as you get older can seem like a formidable topic. But it doesn’t have to be. For many people who been through many stages of relationships, the tendency is to overthink where a new friendship might be going.

Relax. Just have fun, and see where things go from there.

In fact, we asked a couple of our residents about their thoughts on dating since they’d met each other and starting doing things together. Agnes Benson and Frank Stovall were happy to share their observations to a few questions:

1. How did you meet.

Recently widowed Frank lived down the street from a woman who was dating a man that lived at Mount Vernon Towers. He would walk down the street to exercise and occasionally stop in and have coffee. One day the lady said that she knew someone that Frank would be interested in and gave him Agnes’ phone number. They went out on a date and have been dating ever since.

That was six years ago.

2. What is your favorite thing about each other?

Agnes: He is very good at Scrabble which is one of our favorite games to play.

Frank: She is a wonderful person to have a conversation with and just enjoy.

3. What is your ideal date?

Agnes and Frank had a wonderful date last week in which they went to get dinner and then went to see a show at the Sandy Springs Center, and then listened to music afterwards. They said they enjoy the small things in life like watching the sunsets together every morning with a cup of coffee, or going to breakfast, or even just a simple phone call.

4. What has changed in dating now versus when you were younger?

Agnes: I think that dating is a lot more informal now than it was when I was younger. I didn’t start dating until after high school but things seem a lot simpler now.

Frank: Nothing has changed for me personally, but I believe that dating couples nowadays have a lot more money to spend. When I was younger, I tried to find things to do that were free because I was very poor until after I finished college.

5. What advice can you give to people that are starting to date again?

Agnes and Frank: Just start with a simple phone call or date and then go from there.
