Happy Tails Dog Therapy

Happy Tails Dog Therapy

“Happy Tails volunteers share the unconditional love of their dogs, cats, or rabbits with people of all ages with physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs at healthcare facilities, social agencies, and special needs programs throughout the metro Atlanta community. As Atlanta’s oldest and largest 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal assisted therapy organization, Happy Tails’ 250+ volunteers regularly visit more than 100 client facilities, including adult & children’s hospitals, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, schools, shelters, psychiatric, and hospice facilities, touching tens of thousands of lives. Volunteers with Happy Tails visit over 100 different client facilities in Georgia, providing comfort, healing, and stress relief to patients of all ages and backgrounds.  Most visits last one hour and are scheduled for a specific day and time each month. Goals for a visit may be therapeutic, recreational, educational, or motivational. Therapy may be informal in a fun setting or formally prescribed. We encourage everyone to make at least one visit a month. A wide variety of facilities, schedules, and locations are available for volunteers. Visits occur on all days and times of the week, making it easy to find visits that work for your schedule. Below is an example of some of the centers we visit:

  • Preschool, Elementary, and Middle & High Schools
  • Nursing Homes • Assisted Living Facilities • Hospitals
  • Rehabilitation Centers
  • Mental Health Facilities
  • Cancer Treatment Centers
  • Colleges & Universities
