Frederica Reilley Enjoys Mount Vernon Towers’ Activities, Sense of Community

frederica reilleyMrs. Frederica Reilley, or Miss Freddie as she has quickly become known, moved from one of the newer neighborhoods in Woodstock (GA), where she and her husband had lived for the last ten years, to Mount Vernon Towers in June 2013.

“I have been impressed with the lovely staff here since the day I moved in,” notes Mrs. Reilley. “This is a very comfortable place to live, and I am now, after six months, really settled into my new one-bedroom condominium overlooking the courtyard.”

After Gene Reilley, her husband of 61 years passed away in January 2013, one of their daughters encouraged her to move closer into town and suggested Mount Vernon Towers. One of the deciding factors to move into this centrally located senior community was the number and variety of activities planned for the residents on a weekly basis.

“I loved our trip to the sunflower farm this summer, and to the Atlanta History Center. The Halloween Party and Staff Talent Show this fall were also great fun,” notes Mrs. Reilley, who likes meeting new friends when she hands out the internal newsletter, Towers Talk, or when she joins the group of members who make the decorations for the monthly brunches. She enjoys taking a walk in the courtyard, weather permitting, and participates in a weekly exercise class.

“There is also a good library here,” says Mrs. Reilley, whose favorite authors include Maeve Binchy and Willa Cather.

During Mr. Reilley’s 35-year career as an electrical engineer with General Electric Company, the family, including two daughters and a son, moved often throughout the United States. Mrs. Reilley, who grew up in Orangeburg (SC), graduated from Winthrop College with a degree in Home Economics. She has taught kindergarten, worked in Rich’s department store in the China and Crystal department, and managed an adult care facility run by Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church and the DeKalb Council on Aging.

“This year has been hard, but I am looking forward to this new chapter of my life at Mount Vernon Towers. I miss my husband and cherish our memories together, including our splendid 50th anniversary trip to London,” smiles Mrs. Reilley.
